Super-NOFA News

The 2005 Super NOFA results are in, resuming the old pattern of announcing just before Christmas.

We did get good news: The pro-rata share, which was our basic allocation was valued at a maximum of $977,740. We received $971,740, or 99.4% of the possible amount. This is about the same percentage as last year, and up a percentage point from two years ago.

On January 12 we start the process anew for 2006, hoping to replicate our successes in bringing more housing units to the Pikes Peak region for those folks who need it most.

In 2003, the first year of Homeward Pikes Peak's involvement in the Super NOFA Grant process, the awards increased from a five year average of $600,000 to $1, 791,000. For 2004 that amount was topped with an award of $1, 884,000.

Highlighting the 2004 grant was an award of $801,660 to a consortium of six service providers, who will match this housing amount dollar for dollar with services for up to twenty-five chronic substance abuse recidivists. This is a five year program and is renewable. Housing and servicing these individuals will, net after expenses, save Colorado Springs taxpayers approximately $1.6 million that would have been spent if these individuals were left on the streets. Members of the consortium are: Alanno Houses, Salvation Army, El Paso County Veterans Assistance, Harbor House, Full Circle and Liza's Place.

Individual grants were as follows:

Harbor House $198,800

Urban Peak $294,656

Liza's Place $75,000

Southern CO AIDs Project $97,104

Pikes Peak United Way $110,000

Partners-In-Housing $306,305

We are presently awaiting the information from HUD, for the 2005 grant, that will indicate the possible amounts of funding and any changes in rules, priorities, etc.
